Background

Transient, star-like objects have been reported in archival astronomical images and their nature and origin remain unexplained. These objects appear briefly on photographic plates taken between 1949 - 1957 and do not correspond to any known astronomical source.

A team of researchers including Dr. Stephen Bruehl of Vanderbilt University Medical Center has recently published research suggesting that some of these transients may be reflective objects in orbit prior to the launch of the first human satellite, and that they appear more often and in greater numbers during periods of historical nuclear testing.
